Programming is one of the core principles of Computer Science. It's how we control the computer, how we're able to use the technology we have today; it's hard to call yourself a Computer Scientist without being able to code. 

However, coding is a whole world to try and navigate; a language to learn from scratch. It's overwhelming. But it's also an art and a skill to master. There are a million and one ways to start, and really it doesn't matter how you start, as long as you keep going.
