Olivia is a student of Computer Science, and is heading to Durham University in October to begin her BSc in Computer Science. She has recently finished her A-levels, obtaining 3 A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Computer Science.
Over the past two years, Olivia has dedicated much of her time to developing her own knowledge and skills in Computer Science, through advanced programming (in JavaScript and Haskell) and cryptography, as well as sharing this with others.
She has obtained many successes over the years, such as placing 1st in the National Cipher Challenge 2022 (awarded the Trinity College Cambridge prize) and being one of 5 finalists at the everywoman in Tech awards 2023. Additionally, her programs have gained much traction, with her simple, Wordle-inspired, logic game, Numble, being shared on numerous coding blogs and being praised by the creator of Wordle, Josh Wardle.
Olivia loves to share her knowledge almost as much as she loves obtaining it. Having written numerous programming articles for SitePoint and two JavaScript libraries that can be used freely within the programming community, she hopes to provide any help she can to other programmers.
However, her greatest hope is that she can inspire other, younger girls to being their journeys within Computer Science. At her school, she set up her own Cipher Club, teaching the younger students at lunchtimes how to encrypt and decrypt numerous ciphers, in preparation for the National Cipher Challenge. Additionally, she helped weekly at the school's Coding Club, successfully running and aiding many sessions on beginning to program.
Her blatant joy at these clubs have inspired the birth of this, OGcoders, a website that Olivia intends to combine all her talents and passions into a single faction. She wishes to support all those beginning or developing their Computer Science journeys, as the path is not always easy.
The power of Computer Science is unparalleled; Olivia believes everyone should have the chance to grasp that power.
